To make it easy, we have only three categories for small object 3D scanning. Simple, Intermediate and Complex. Each one of these categories represents the amount of work necessary to create your model. The geometry of the object is the biggest factor in this industry. Obviously, the more faces, facets, holes, hidden features, the more work involved to accurately capture the data from which to create the 3D model.
The maximum size for 3D scanning very small items @ 10μm is 100 x 100 x 75mm. Every tiny detail is captured and rendered in 3D with incredible precision.
For simple objects, the process involves scanning from a few angles to capture the basic shape and features. This is relatively quick and straightforward. Intermediate objects require more scans from different angles to capture additional details and complex shapes. These scans are then aligned and merged in post-processing to create a comprehensive model. Complex objects, with intricate geometries and numerous hidden features, require even more scans and meticulous post-processing to accurately capture all the details.
The precision of 10 microns ensures that even the tiniest features are faithfully reproduced in the 3D model. This level of detail is particularly valuable in industries like jewelry design, microelectronics, and medical device manufacturing where every micron matters. This level of accuracy allows for precise measurements, quality control, and the ability to create highly detailed replicas or prototypes. It’s important to note that the size of the object being scanned can impact the time required for scanning and post-processing. Additionally, the complexity of the geometry can also affect the scanning process.
